This century’s K.C. And The Sunshine Band.
Men, Women, & Children - Men, Women, & ChildrenPosted by Editorial Intern on 22-May-06 @ 12:29 PM
[4/5] Forget that Men, Women & Children guitarist Todd Weinstock used to throw down in Glassjaw, and don't even think about uttering the term "dance-punk" around his new band. There's nothing remotely "punk" about MW&C's alloy of funky grooves, string-section passages and singer TJ Penzone's disco-king vocal prowess. Which isn't say the band's debut is polite: "Sell Your Money" somehow ties shifting time signatures into something you don't need an applied-mathematics degree to dance to; "Photosynthesis (We're Losing Oxygen)" is a percolating electro-funk workout that reminds us how great Prince and the Time used to be; and "Lightning Strikes Twice In New York" is simultaneously lush, furious and vainglorious, with Penzone supplying the eye-roll-inducing hook "Even if you die, we've saved your life." What's next, leisure suits coming back in style and Salsoul Orchestra vinyl going up for mega-bucks on eBay?
