Tastes great, but less filling.
Catfish Haven - DevastatorAlternative Press - Editorial Intern on 1/22/09 @ 1:31 PM - altpress.com
The press materials accompanying Devastator, the new album by scraggly rock/soul three-piece Catfish Haven, liken the disc to KISS' Destroyer, ZZ Top's Eliminator and Lou Reed's Transformer-but if anything, CH sound more like Bad Company, the Doobie Brothers and the Commitments getting smashed on Mad Dog 20/20 then wrestling in the glass-strewn parking lot outside the local watering hole. It makes for a fairly entertaining show if you're willing to put down your hot wings for a second to step outside to watch. The real problem with Devastator-and Catfish Haven, for that matter-is that they're playing in a sector of the music world once occupied by true legends, and thus have some Sasquatch-sized shoes to fill. There's no mistaking CH's latest material for lost Otis Redding or Wilson Pickett tapes, but then again, it's unfair to really expect that from anyone. (SECRETLY CANADIAN) Brendan Manley
