[4/5] In most cases, rap legends either disappear from the planet or try to change their sound to fit the modern landscape. Kool Keith manages to escape both situations. He's still as groundbreaking today as he was in Ultramagnetic MCs, Dr. Octagon or any of his various other projects. He's also still obsessed with aliens, as you'll note from Nogatco Rd.'s accompanying mini-movie (on the enhanced portion) and the link to a website (nogatco.com) Keith set up to expose alleged UFO cover-ups by the government. "Nogatco" is a gritty slice of sci-fi hip-hop, with Keith's smooth New York flow and producer IZ-REAL's raw and unpolished beat wizardry. "Live Dissection," the album's closing track, pairs Keith with Sage Francis (as Xaul Zan) and Sole, two of today's most creative MCs. Not only is the track amazing, but it's proof of Keith's continuing influence on hip-hop. Sure, the dude is weird, but that's why we love him.
