And while that's a remarkable feat for any new artist tipped for Next Big Thingdom, it's also indicative of Spank Rock's rare ability to mesh both mainstream rap's bling and sampladelia's cutting-edge production with breathtaking bravado. The East Coast trio embrace raunchy party tactics while also giving your ears loads of fresh sounds. MC Naeem Juwan's ass-and-boobs-fixated lyrics may insult your sense of decorum (you prude), but DJs XXXchange and Chris Rockswell's music is catchy, edgy gold. YoYoYoYoYo bestows sparkly and gritty tracks that draw from the Bronx (hip-hop), London (grime), Jamaica (dub), Brazil (baile funk), Germany (Kraftwerkian electro), and Baltimore (raw booty-tech). It sounds simultaneously old-school and on some next-level shit. It's both pop and avant-garde. And it's a contender for best album of 2006.
