Valient Thorr - Legend Of The WorldPosted by Tim Karan on 08-Sep-06 @ 01:37 PM
[4/5] It's sort of ironic that a band who aren't even from Earth could make the most poignant political statement of 2006. But with Legend Of The World, Valient Thorr channel the countercultural spirit of the MC5 and support it with some of the most kickass guitar riffs this side of the '70s. "Rezerection" sports Thin Lizzy-esque guitar harmonies; "Lime Green Net" sounds like vintage Van Halen; and "Fall Of Pangea" features full-on shredding. But the real surprise is the lyrics; in the course of these 12 songs, vocalist Valient Himself speaks out about the president, the war in Iraq and the hypocrisy of our government without relying on vague theorizing or empty sloganeering. "We never knew the truth and I guess we never will," he sings on "Goveruptcy." Maybe not, but this a start. (VOLCOM ENTERTAINMENT) Jonah Bayer
