Gatsbys American Dream. Since 2005's excellent
Volcano, GAD have toured their collective ass off, added two members and, it seems, learned tough lessons about the music industry the hard way-by living through them. Their next move? Creating an album completely devoid of filler (and auto-tuning) that's chockfull of scathing postmodern pop smarts, guitar gymnastics, Nic Newsham's expected (but no less awesome) vocal theatrics, and a whole lotta soul. "I've got to write these songs, so you remember that you believe in music," Newsham wails on the album's centerpiece, "Margaritas And Cock." If you're a band keen on biting Gatsbys' style, you've got great taste. But you don't stand a chance at re-creating their rock.
