DJ legend turns old into new.
DJ Krush - Stepping Stones: The Self-Remixed BestPosted by Tim Karan on 28-Feb-07 @ 06:04 PM
[5/5] Leave it to DJ Krush to completely reinvent the concept of a greatest-hits record. The Japanese turntable whizz (and pioneer of "trip-hop") has been on the cutting edge for almost 20 years, so instead of merely rehashing his best work for this compilation, he decided to completely remix each and every track. As a DJ, it's his job to make something new out of other people's remnants; now it's come full circle. This genius idea is split across two discs, one featuring his work with vocalists (Lyricism), and the other focusing on his instrumental cuts (Soundscapes). While none of these songs really needed "fixing," Krush manages to make some of them shine brighter. With tracks featuring the talents of DJ Shadow, Mr. Lif, Company Flow, ?uestlove, and members of Anticon, Stepping Stones is a testament to Krush's longevity, as well as his profound impact on hip-hop and electronic music.
