Chin Up Chin Up - This Harness Can’t Ride Anything

[4/5] Chin Up Chin Up have been through a lot for a band that's technically only in musical kindergarten. Formed in 2001, the band had to overcome the tragic loss of original bassist Chris Saathoff to a hit-and-run driver just before releasing their 2004 debut, We Should Have Never Lived Like We Were Skyscrapers. Consequently, This Harness Can't Ride Anything finds the band maturing, but with their sense of whimsy still intact. Throughout the record, singer Jeremy Bolen croons with the flamboyant bravado of Brandon Flowers over circular guitar lines that repeat and chime like a possessed music box ("We've Got To Keep Running," "Blankets Like Beavers").
