Frenchies get their groove on.
Tahiti 80 - FosburyPosted by Rachel Lux on 06-Apr-07 @ 12:34 PM
[3/5] The French popsters have gone all R&B on us! Well, not quite, but the English-singing Tahiti 80 are definitely digging deeper into funky grooves with their third disc and Militia Group debut. They even hired a couple of chaps (Neal Pouge and Serban Ghenea) who worked on Outkast and N.E.R.D. albums to mix the darn thing and better define Fosbury's beats. When it all clicks, like on "Here Comes," you could almost mistake Xavier Boyer's falsetto and the callout hook for a new Justin Timberlake single (and that's a compliment). Elsewhere, it's just a fun record to shake your bum to. The vintage '80s pop the band are known for makes up the latter part of the album, which will leave some saying they didn't commit fully to this new venture. Whatever. Baby steps, people: They can call on Snoop Dogg for a guest appearance next time. (THE MILITIA GROUP; themilitiagroup.com) JR Griffin
