Southern rock still rules.
The Showdown - Temptation Come My Way
[3.5/5] When thinking of Christian metal, "interesting" isn't typically a term that comes to mind. However, when infused with strong vocals and intriguing, full guitar sounds, opinions tend to change for the better. This is the case for Tennessee's the Showdown, who have masterminded a Southern rock-influenced breakthrough in their sophomore effort,
Temptation Come My Way.
Tempation is a departure from their previous album, 2004's
A Chorus Of Obliteration, which boasted about 70 percent screaming; the new, clean vocals of singer David Bunton fit into each and every track seamlessly, most notably in a cover of Kansas' classic "Carry On My Wayward Son." "Head Down" begins with an arena-rock guitar riff that brings the listener back to the '80s with a rhythm suitable for fist pumping or headbanging. The album's title track has the most southern metal sound, making listeners perk up and believe they've swapped this CD for one of Pantera's by mistake. In simpler terms: It totally shreds, dude.
