Various Artists - Play
[2.5/5] Since this releases-Play being DeSoto Records' first stab at a kids' compilation-is purportedly aimed at children, it's only fair to have children evaluate it. So I spun both CDs for my own kids, ages 6 and 3; what follows are their unaltered, unedited reactions:
Play: "This is a terrible singer!" (Anna Oxygen, "Born To Shake"); "How come that mans keep talking over the song?" (Channels with Damon Locks, "Always Check For Holes"); "It's hideoused!" (Mudhoney, "I Like To Make Noise And Break Things"); "They keep saying the same thing blah blah blah" (Sgt. Major, "Nellie The Elephant"); [Playing air guitar.] "Yes!" (Mock Orange, "Holiday Dinner Song"); "Too much pianos-is this a Christmas song?" (Mirah and Tara Jane O'Neill, "Green Up Time"). Granted, that's only six out of 14 tracks, but we never made it past the midway point before they demanded that I turn it off. (DESOTO) Aaron Burgess
