A mix of the outrageous and conventional.
House Of Fools - Live And Learn
[3/5] The opening track on
Live And Learn isn't nearly as attention-grabbing as the leadoff track on last year's House Of Fools' self-titled EP-a melancholy ballad from the Pink Floyd school of drama with a slight hint of Radiohead and a majestic instrumental section at the end that felt like Alice Cooper's
Welcome To My Nightmare. But the song in question turns up later as the album-closing title track on this LP-and it's not the only time they spread their wings a little. There's the Queen-like operatic bombast of "I Heard A Rumor," for example, or the horn-fueled gypsy feel of "Kiss The Haze." But even the simpler pleasures are not without their charms, from the ba-ba-ba chorus of "It Could Be Easy," the kind of song Ben Folds would love, to the countryish "Me & Everyone I Know."
