[2] Mice Parade originated as an instrumental act, and their vocalists still sing as if their input were unwanted. Songwriter Adam Pierce's distorted conversational croon barely registers, and Kristin Anna Valtysdóttir's contributions coast entirely on exhaled air. The equally unassertive backing tracks range from minimalist twinkling to frilly flamenco strumming, with frat-jam acoustic riffs, electric guitars, buoyant funk basslines and skittering drums making incongruous cameos. For the somnolent, Bem-Vinda Vontage provides a soothing passage to the subconscious without any pesky hooks that might disturb the dreams. For the wide-awake, it's a crashing bore.
