Ex-cLOUDDEAD producer cleverly merges shoegazer rock and hip-hop.

odd nosdam - Burner

[4] Continuing the obsessive project started by his old outfit, cLOUDDEAD, odd nosdam further smudges the line between shoegazer rock and hip-hop with Burner, the follow-up to his 2003 debut disc, no more wig for ohio. Nosdam submerges his introverted, head-nodding beats beneath oscillating blankets of warped keyboards and guitars, forging a muffled, clouded sound world that'll comfort old Flying Saucer Attack fans (a stunning epic tribute to FSA closes Burner on a sacred, droney note). There's no rapping or boom-bapping here, but Mike Patton, Jessica Bailiff and others croon and sigh over nosdam's lo-fi distortions of mysterious origins. Damn odd. (ANTICON) Dave Segal
