Dan Andriano In The Emergency Room - Hurricane Season

Released: July 26, 2011 Asian Man

As the unsung songwriter of Alkaline Trio, Dan Andriano balances the trademark dark imagery and self-loathing of his musical counterpart, Matt Skiba. On his solo debut, Hurricane Season, Andriano exhibits sophisticated songwriting rooted in introspective, emotional storytelling. If Josh Caterer of Smoking Popes were to write lyrics to a Lucero tune, it would be “On Monday,” as organ and resonating guitar melodies bring out the heartfelt sentiments felt when yearning over a loved one. The title track laces the bright nuances found in the guitar and keys arrangements with imaginative metaphors alluding to an impending melodramatic disaster. The stripped-down, acoustic “Me And Denver” is raw with empathy, loneliness and the challenge of striving to be emotionally complete. With all this perspective and sentiment, imagine the direction the next Alkaline Trio record could take if Andriano were to take the songwriting reins.
