How are there no reviews for this?! The album has officially leaked and the band has the entire CD up on Myspace…but then again, I realize that no one pays attention to Myspace anymore. hah. But that's besides the point… A while back when I heard that Hellogoodbye had released their new single "Would It Kill You?" my initial reaction was 'oh, wasn't that the overhyped electronica band that every girl at my high school was obsessed with? I'll give it a listen just to see what other synth melody they've managed to force out of Garageband…" Boy, was I wrong. The songs on Would It Kill You sound like those from a completely different band. A MUCH better, more instrumentally competent, band. There are still ghosts of electronica in some songs, but those blips and beeps take a backseat to brass sections, ukeleles, strings, LEGITIMATE INSTRUMENTS. Highlights of the album: every song. I tried typing out song recommendations but it looked something like this- 'go listen to Finding Something to Do and Getting Old, they're great album openers. Oh, and When We First Met. And Would It Kill You. And…etc.' If you get nothing else from this rambling review, know this: I was a COMPLETE skeptic, not expecting much from Hellogoodbye (I thought they were exceptionally mediocre for their debut) and this CD is officially in (if not at) the top of my Album of the Year list. Give it a listen. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
