Stop Breathing - Stop Breathing

Check Out:
"War On Us"

Released:
May 29, 2012 - No Idea

AP Rating:

Sorry, Pavement fans. These current and ex-members of Young Livers, Glass And Ashes and the Missing 23rd are certainly not churning out ’90s slacker indie rock on their self-titled debut. Put it this way: Frontman John Crerar sounds like a cross between Good Riddance's Russ Rankin and Municipal Waste's Tony Foresta. Thus, it wouldn't be far off the mark to say that musically, the band also lie somewhere between GR's more hardcore-oriented fare and Foresta's old-school revival side project (and No Idea labelmates) No Friends. After all, Stop Breathing are clearly lifting the same notes from ’80s hardcore while maintaining their own relatively unique vibe. They rip off thrash-style solos in "Tomorrow's Burden," "Marine" and "Nite Zoo," with floored, charred aggression in neck-snappers such as "White Out" and "War On Us." Though it's easy to lose interest somewhere in the middle of these 14 very like-minded tracks, it's a fairly ripping half-hour that fits in nicely with one's purchases of the new OFF! and Classics Of Love records.
