How did you get into comedy?
I was in a really corny improv group when I was in high school. We performed at, like, school functions and malls and stuff and were probably more terrible than I remember. When I moved to New York City to go to the School of Visual Arts, I happened to share a dorm with some guys that I got along with and they invited me to join their sketch group. I agreed only out of curiosity, and the rest is history.
What's your favorite Whitest Kids U Know sketch?
Sometimes the things you shoot that you think are crap turn out to be really appealing to people. Like the "slow jerk" sketch. That sketch has over 3 million hits on YouTube and is really, really popular, but when we shot it we were just barreling through trying to get to some other sketch we were all in love with that nobody gives a shit about.
Tell us about Miss March.
[It's] kind of an examination [of] sex and the way we are told to think about it when we're young. I grew up in a really puritanical, restrictive household where sex was a thing that was a sin until marriage, and it was a big hurdle that I had to get over. The other way of thinking is to look at sex as this fantastic, holy of holy pleasures that defines your manhood and is the only reason for existing. Both are obviously bullshit and the movie tries to show how two young men make the journey toward seeing sex from a more moderate, realistic view.
What do you like to do when you find yourself with a spare minute?
I like to read and play video games, but I work so much that I don't get to do that stuff at all really. I've had the "red ring of death" for about two months-Xbox people know what I'm talking about-and I haven't been able to get it fixed. I'm also really into Wild Beasts-Limbo Panto is an amazing album. Pick it up, kids!
CHEAT SHEET >>Zach Cregger first busted your funny bone as a writer, actor and director for the sketch comedy series, THE WHITEST KIDS U KNOW. After a role in last year's COLLEGE, he's headed back to theaters in next month's MISS MARCH.
