The Early November have premiered their "Tell Me Why" music video on the Vans Warped Tour's official site. They'll be performing at all dates this summer.

The White Mandingos, whose lineup features Murs, Darryl Jenifer from Bad Brains and Sacha Jenkins SHR, talk industry in their new track "Warn A Brotha," which you can stream below. The song comes from their debut album The Ghetto Is Tryna Kill Me, out June 11 on Fat Beats.

"The Ghetto is Tryna Kill Me is our Tommy," says guitar-playing White Mandingo Sacha Jenkins SHR. Jenkins SHR, who is a huge Who fan, cites the group's 1969 rock opera as a definite influence on Ghetto's voice.  "And "Warn A Brother" is a 2013 take on "Pinball Wizard." Murs is the black Roger Daltry meets the black Eazy E...Darryl is the black John Entwhistle. Listen to this tune over a weekend and, depending on your religious beliefs, you could wind up having a Black Sabbath."

According to a tweet from the band, the decision was based upon communication with the promoter as well as Bradley Walden, the vocalist of Squid The Whale, needing to seek medical attention for an injured ankle.

The song "18" from Anarbor's upcoming album Burnout explores the issue of dating someone younger and all the trouble that can come along with it. "The lyrics relate to the experience I've had dating a younger girl at the time. Not saying that all younger girls are like this. But the experience I had inspired me to put it in a song," says vocalist/bassist Slade Echeverria. 

Check out the song, which Echeverria describes as "on the summery pop side" of the Anarbor spectrum while maintaining their edgy side, and piss off your parents a bit. 

Burnout is set for release June 4 via Hopeless Records and is now available to pre-order.

The Mowgli’s, one of our 100 bands you need to know, have revealed their debut album, Waiting for the Dawn, will be released June 18 via Photo Finish/Island Records.

The band will also be returning to late night television with Conan on May 23 and their second appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on June 20.

Big D And The Kids Table are set to release their double album Stomp / Stroll, which will showcase two sides of Big D--their more ska/reggae-oriented sound on Stroll (also the name of the genre of their own making) and the fast paced punk-rock on Stomp. Listen to a sampling of both and read the track explanations from the band, below.
 

"Stepping Out Of Line Forever"
This song was the first song written for Stomp and cliché enough, it was written on a porch of humble cabin looking over a small pond. American punk rock is often looked at as a phase in a teenager's life, while in England and Europe being a Punk is a lifestyle and mentality that amounts to more than just a rebellious phase. 

I look at today’s humanity for lower and middle class American’s as modern day slavery, while I would like to note that true slavery is obviously much, much worse. What I mean is today’s citizens have endless bills for things that they need if they want to keep up and stay competitive in society. Bills and debt chain us; we are controlled in this way.

By touring in Big D since the age of 18, I have been able to look at society from the outside and have been able to--in a sense--be free.  

"Stepping Out Of Line Forever" is speaking about how the ideals of punk rock have been a gift for me and my personal freedom and is not just a simple phase of power chords, sweaty clubs, spit and broken glass. That is why I choose writing songs and living on the road over having a DVD collections and assimilating completely. "Stepping Out Of Line Forever" talks about sticking up for yourself in these controlled / missing the point of humanity times.

"Young Suckers"
This tune is one of my all-time favorite songs to have been a part of. It is in my top 5 proudest creations ever. Its core message is: Stop moaning and judging others from afar and just simmer down and join in the fun. Life is short and can be badass if you simply stop overthinking. So go on and get into it already.

If Refused & The Commitments had a child it would sound a lot like "Young Suckers." I enjoy making songs with scene changes, going from one scene, to then cross cut into a completely different scene, like screenplay writing.

Working with The Doped Up Dollies is always a great time. I’m drawn to putting sassy schoolyard rhymes to heavy powerful music, because I feel the juicy core of the youth (meaning under the age of 13) has more UMPH then adults remember. Little kids are unabashed and know what it’s all made of, so when you put their vibe to slamming drums,  well then I feel you truly are able to then capture how they hear and view things. Young Suckers is an explosive lollipop.

When Fred Mascherino (Terrible Things, the Color Fred, ex-Taking Back Sunday) mentioned the idea of putting out a guitar tab book, the excitement from fans was overwhelming. Thus, today Mascherino and Terrible Things have launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring the book to life. 

The book, set to feature every Terrible Things song, Bend To Break (the Color Fred) and bonus riffs from his older projects exactly as Mascherino wrote them, will be funded if backers pledge $1,984.

The creepy old guy at the club. Your mom on Instagram. Dave Navarro wearing black nail polish. It all kind of makes you cringe, doesn’t it? But culture appropriation–especially when it comes to trends–is always subject to the trickle-down effect, or in business-speak, the mass-market theory. Put plainly: “I listened to that band/was wearing those shoes/pierced my nose before everyone else did.”

Enter The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s latest exhibit, “PUNK: Chaos to Couture,” which focuses on “the relationship between the punk concept of ‘do-it-yourself’ and the couture concept of ‘made-to-measure.’” The seven galleries are organized “around the materials, techniques and embellishments associated with the anti-establishment style.”

So we’re here to examine the parallels between current haute couture (or those crazy-ass outfits you see on fashion runways that can cost more than a small car) and the original punks of the '70s and early '80s, whose anti-materialistic style evolved using the means available to them: tape, safety pins, cheap muslin and hand-me-downs. What others didn't want, as compared to what everyone wants–after all, supposedly haute couture, while unaffordable, is “aspirational.”

Fashion taking cues from youth and music is old-hat; been there, done that, still doing it, have the $80 T-shirt. But when does it go from inspiration to soulless imitation—and how embarrassing is it in the process? Is it all about how much integrity exists in the first place? After all, Richard Hell, founder of seminal NYC punks Television and Richard Hell And The Voidoids, did say British punk svengali Malcolm McLaren appropriated Hell’s 1974 style for the 1975 Sex Pistols; McLaren, the ultimate capitalist who championed “cash from chaos,” admitted it.

The exhibit opens with a classic quote from Sideburns magazine: “This is a chord, this another, this is a third. Now go start a band.” Along with clips of '70s-era girls in black makeup, long white shirts and nothing else pogoing to an unheard beat, it’s a good, although general, start.

But then there’s the second room. It features a wall with video mash-ups of the '70s-era NYC punk scene courtesy of creative consultant/photographer Nick Knight, and kitty-corner to that is… a recreation of CBGB’s bathroom. Yes, you heard me. The infamous CBGB, where the Ramones, Blondie and numerous others got their start. CBGB, with their hardcore matinees every Sunday; CBGB, the home of the graffiti’d bathrooms with no stalls and sinks coated in vomit or bodily fluids. This is now sitting like a life-sized diorama in a room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the most respected institutions ("institutions" being a key word here) in the world. An older lady-who-lunches, replete with her pearls, leather flats and Vuitton handbag, says loudly to her friend, “You see, this is a play on Duchamp. How clever!” Um.

But maybe “Chaos to Couture” is supposed to be clever. As I walk through room after room of fashion, from Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren’s infamous London shop (best known as Sex, but renamed Seditionaries in 1976) to the modern-day outfits from fashion designers like Rodarte, Alexander McQueen and Versace (which all cost more than a used car), I look with a cynical eye. Each room is divided into loose “themes” based on DIY: “DIY Hardware,” “DIY Bricolage” (aka, “garbage”); “DIY Graffiti and Agitprop;” “DIY Destroy.” Is this all just a Malcolm McLaren-esque ruse, a carefully constructed construct designed to fuck with the masses? Is it truly a play on Duchamp—i.e. 100-percent punk rock?

Or is it just the Cliff Notes of a generation, a mildly shocking exhibit for tourists to make them feel as though they’ve done something dangerous today by gawking at video clips of a bloody Sid Vicious, a recreation of Seditionaries that looks far too clean and neat and a bunch of expensive outfits from high-fashion designers adorning mannequins sporting brand new Dr. Martens? That is, punk rock for the one percent?

As I neared the end of the exhibit, where the piped-in audio blasted recognizable hits like “God Save The Queen” (honestly, if one knew nothing of the origins of punk, one might think that punk was entirely invented by the Sex Pistols, with maybe a few contributions from those upstarts at CBGB and a little band called the Clash), I was leaning towards the former. I was almost excited to exit though the gift shop, where I expected to see a huge placard bearing the classic Johnny Rotten quote: “Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?” 

Then I could laugh, say, “Yes!,” and feel like it all meant something.

Suicide Silence guitarist Mark Heylmun has spoken with Loudwire about the band's current status almost eight months since the passing of frontman Mitch Lucker. Read an excerpt from the interview:

"Well the mindset right now is that none of us really have the energy after all of this. From going 150,000 miles per hour in the band, going to a different country every week and going at it so hard, then all of a sudden stopping. We don’t want to do anything. We don’t want to think about what we’re going to do. We want to chill out for a little bit and then if something happens, it happens, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. It’s as simple as that."

Heylmun goes on to comment that regardless of the band's uncertain future, their high profile December memorial concert for Lucker is still scheduled for a DVD release this year.

Reunited Iowa hardcore greats Modern Life Is War have officially completed work on their fourth studio album. Like their sophomore release, 2005's Witness, the band returned to both God City Studio and Deathwish Inc.

"We have completed our new album. We are beyond excited. More news will soon come. Go see what Deathwish Inc. had to say about it," said MLIW on Facebook.

"Modern Life Is War have finished recording their new album at God City. I haven't been this excited and moved from a contemporary hardcore/punk release in a long time. More news on the release coming soon," added Deathwish.

NK (formerly known as North Korea, featuring Envy On The Coast's vocalist and the Dillinger Escape Plan's drummer) are streaming their debut album, Nothing To Be Gained Here. It's out on May 21 via Triple Crown Records. Stream it in its entirety below.

Stone Temple Pilots have released a new single titled "Out Of Time," their first song with Linkin Park's Chester Bennington on vocals (who made a surprise appearance with the band at KROQ's Weenie Roast this weekend). Former frontman and founding member Scott Weiland had been “officially terminated’’ from the band on Feb. 27.

Have Mercy are streaming their debut LP, the Earth Pushed Back, which is out May 21 on Topshelf Records. It was produced by J. Robbins (Hostage Calm, Braid, Fairweather) in their hometown of Baltimore, MD. Catch them on tour this summer with Koji, Turnover and Ivy League TX.

Boston's Bad Rabbits just made their national television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live, performing "Can't Fool Me" and "Fall In Love." Both songs appear on their newly released album, American Love.

Henry Rollins (former frontman of Black Flag) has posted on the L.A. Weekly blog about why he isn't playing music anymore.

Since the first break-up of Black Flag in 1986, Rollins has done everything from performing, writing, activism, publishing and acting to his current job of being a radio host at the KCRW station.

With the reunion of former members of Black Flag under the new name FLAG (Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowksi, Dez Cadena and Bill Stevenson) and also under the original name Black Flag (Greg Ginn, Ron Reyes and Roberto “Robo” Valverde), people have been curious about the former members' absence. Rollins explains: "music has moved on."

"I got asked by someone if I was going to go on tour this summer and play what at this point is old music. I told the person that I wasn't because that currently, my future is getting in the way of my past.

I tell you this because in the summer months, you can count on bands that have been gone for years who will reassemble and go onto stages all over the world playing "vintage music." Perhaps they are on a Proustian mission to recapture that which has been lost. I read the interviews where the musicians claim that now they can really play this music. I don't doubt them, but therein lies the problem. Musicians should not play Music. Music should play musicians.

Bands that think they have a handle on Music are no longer battling the beast. They think they have mastered Music. They have not.

Music cannot be mastered. What they think is control and mastery is not only hubris but even worse, it is Music's great indifference. Simply put, Music no longer plays them. Music has moved on to more worthy combatants."
