Football Saturdays: Obama edition

First off, I want to apologize to everyone who looks forward to my occasional series: Husker Football Fridays. I know I haven't posted one in awhile, and I know today is Saturday, not Friday.

Regardless, lots of good things have been happening in college football this week. Nebraska had an off week, so there was absolutely no way they could lose--always a good thing. Also, Michigan (who ended their season today) and Notre Dame (who still has to face USC) both turned in record-breaking seasons. However, it's not the kind of records they wanna be breaking. It's the first time in school history that the Wolverines have had an eight-loss season. It's the first time in school history that the Fighting Irish lost to an eight-loss team (today, with their one-point loss to Syracuse). Lemme just say that as a fan of a team who recently went through several similar seasons, I understand what you're going through. But I'm still going to laugh at you. Far too many people enjoy seeing the Huskers lose, so I think I've got some pleasure at another team's fans expense coming my way.

I'm also thoroughly enjoying the ass-handing Oklahoma is currently giving to Texas Tech. As a rule, I don't love any of the Big 12 South teams. But I respect Oklahoma and the long, storied rivalry between the Sooners and the Huskers. Bob Stoops runs a tight ship. Mike Leach and his Red Raiders, on the other hand, embody everything negative about college sports today. They promote unsportsmanlike conduct and player entitlement (dude, they let their players wear Halloween makeup. Every game. Shouldn't that be against NCAA rules?). I'd rather see OU in the Big 12 Championship game any day over Texas Tech.

In other college football related news, I am now more stoked than ever about president-elect Barack Obama. Monday on 60 Minutes, he endorsed dropping the convoluted Bowl Championship Series (BCS) in favor of an eight-team playoff. Heck yes! Screw working on the economy. If he can get this taken care of by the end of his term, I'll be satisfied.
