AP: Max, do you have any crazy stalkers or anything like that? The mouthbreathers, "Max, I've followed you around for 14 days, why don't you talk to me," that type of thing?
BEMIS: We have... What's weird is I've noticed it's not that bad. I mean, kids are pretty respectful of us, which I really give my fans [appreciation] for, because they will just, you know, they're chillin'. I kind of get assaulted by guys more, which is kind of off-putting, because they, uh... [Laughs.] We've [got] a very fan-involved performance-I'll walk into the crowd, or we'll let kids come onstage and do their thing. One night, [this dude] just started choking the life out of me. I was singing at the same time, and it was, like, a really heightened part of the song. At first, I accepted it and I was like, "Let it happen," but eventually, I [wasn't] able to breathe. There's a lot of really intense guys that feel the camaraderie with me and wanna sweat on me, beat me up and love it, and they want me to love it. And I do kind of love it. But that's the most intense fan I've experienced.
v DeLONGE: I think it was in Boston. This one kid asked me for my hat at this big radio show, and I was just like, "No, man, I can't give you my hat, I don't want to." And he goes, "Come on, man. Well, can I come hang out with you?" and I said no. Then he was like, "Well, let me just walk with you," and I said, "No, dude, you're kinda weird, I gotta go," and he was like, "I'll suck your dick." I look over [at him]-and it was not a fucking joke-the kid was dressed exactly like me at the time, big biggie shorts, hat on kind of sideways, black socks, and he was just like...
BEMIS: Like a young, male groupie.
DeLONGE: So I took him backstage and we did it all night long and it was awesome, and... [Bemis laughs.]
...and now he's a Vice President somewhere at Live Nation.
DeLONGE: Like you said, Max, guys can be ridiculous. Yeah, they get all broke down, they sweat... It's just creepier when dudes are super into you for some reason. You've got to have some element of cool. That's the whole fucking law: When you're a guy you gotta be...
BEMIS: Right, it's so subtle too. And dudes will cross it when they're excited, y'know?
DeLONGE: And emo boys, with all the tight fucking pants. [Bemis laughs.] When those dudes get into you, you feel like they're just lost in their own sexuality. ALT
