As a veteran, I am completely about helping out my fellow vet with their benefits. But on occasion….some snot-nose kid waltzes into my office IN UNIFORM, stands in front of my desk despite the fact that I offered him to sit down, and announces him/herself by their rank and what branch they are in. Because the name tape that says, “US ARMY” or “US AIR FORCE” totally didn’t tell me they were a soldier or airman.

I’ve come to realize that many students don’t even consider that the people taking care of their benefits just might be veterans themselves. Makes me want to punch them in the face.
