The heavy side of music offers an incredibly vast spectrum of soundscapes. Whether you prefer punk roots or something on the technical side, there is something for everyone. Below, we have collected 12 groups from across heavy music we think you should be listening to. Take a look and give them a spin—you might just find your new favorite band!

 

Oceans Ate Alaska

Oceans Ate Alaska formed in 2011, releasing two EPs before signing to Fearless Records in 2014. They dropped their debut LP, Lost Isles, in 2015. Hear the lead single, “Blood Brothers,” above.

 

Fallujah
  

Progressive death metal outfit Fallujah have released two LPs since their formation in 2007: The Harvest Wombs (2011) and The Flesh Prevails (2014). They will release their highly anticipated third studio effort, Dreamless, April 29 via Nuclear Blast. Hear the lead single, “The Void Alone,” above.

 

Erra
  

Alabama’s Erra released their third studio album, Drift, earlier this month on Sumerian Records. The album features former Texas In July frontman J.T. Cavey. The group’s debut and sophomore LPs, Impulse and Augment, were released on Tragic Hero Records in 2011 and 2013. Stream “Orchid” from Drift above.

 

My Ticket Home
  

Ohio natives My Ticket Home formed in the late ‘’00s as a metalcore band. After releasing two EPs and a full-length, the group altered their sound on 2013’s Strangers Only to feature more nü-metal and alternative tendencies. My Ticket Home are expected to released a new album later this year. Listen to “Hot Soap” above.

 

Make Them Suffer
  

Make Them Suffer are one of Australia’s many flowering heavy acts. Since releasing their Lord Of Woe EP in 2010, the band have released two full-length efforts and shared the stage with names such as Parkway Drive, Thy Art is Murder and Oceano. Old Wounds
  

New Jersey hardcore outfit Old Wounds released their latest studio album, The Suffering Spirit, in 2015 via Good Fight Music. You will be able to catch them on every date of this summer’s Vans Warped Tour. Listen to “Rest In Piss” from The Suffering Spirit above.

Wage War
  

Florida’s Wage War formed in 2010 under the moniker Empires. Last year, the quintet signed to Fearless Records and released their debut LP, Blueprints. Andrew Wade and A Day To Remember frontman Jeremy McKinnon served as producers. Stream “Alive” above and be sure to catch the band on Warped Tour this summer.

 

DangerKids
  

Nü-metal/metalcore fusionists DangerKids formed in 2012 and released their debut full-length, Collapse, in 2013 via Rise Records. The band will embark on a headlining tour with Avion Roe later this month. Hear “Paper Thin” above.

 

’68
  

Former Chariot frontman Josh Scogin teamed with ex-Becoming The Archetype drummer Michael McClellan in 2013 to form ’68. The duo have since released an EP and, a full-length effort and have shared the stage with everyone from Underoath to Hands Like Houses. Check out “Track 1 R” along with an accompanying music video directed by Every Time I Die drummer Daniel Davison (ex-Norma Jean, Underoath).

 

Counterparts
  

Melodic hardcore mainstays Counterparts have released four full-length albums since forming in 2007. Their most recent LP, titled Tragedy Will Find Us, was released in 2015 via Pure Noise Records. Listen to the LP’s ninth track, “Collapse.”  

 

A Lot Like Birds
  

Since their formation, A Lot Like Birds have evolved from a largely instrumental band to a progressive post-hardcore act. The band released two studio albums with former Dance Gavin Dance vocalist Kurt Travis at the helm. Travis and the band parted ways earlier this year, with members Cory Lockwood and Matt Coate taking over vocal duties. Hear “Connector” above.

 

Animals As Leaders
  

Prog-metal juggernauts Animals As Leaders have three full-length efforts underneath their belt, with a fourth on its way. Guitarist Tosin Abasi formed the band after his previous project, Reflux, became inactive. Stream Animals As Leaders’ breakout single, “CAFO,” above.
