Slipknot pass up Ed Sheeran for first UK No. 1 album in 18 years

Slipknot‘s new album We Are Not Your Kind has seemingly been one of the only things on the metal community’s mind the past few weeks, and it looks like it’s paid off for the band.

The nine have landed their first number one record in the UK in 18 years, beating out Ed Sheeran‘s No.6 Collaborations Project for the top spot.

The band’s new record snagged the top spot after making over 31,800 chart sales in its first week of release.

The album is the band’s fifth consecutive album to land in the top five, with Iowa being their only other album to get the UK No. 1 spot.

This also marks the UK’s fifth heavy metal record to get the top spot this decade. The others include Iron Maiden‘s The Book Of Souls and The Final FrontierAvenged Sevenfold‘s Hail To The King and Black Sabbath‘s 13.

In other news, Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor has opened up about when he thinks he will work on his next book.

Taylor’s last book was released in 2017 titled America 51. Much of it was dedicated to his dislike of President Donald Trump.

“I kind of took a break from writing books after America 51, just because it took such a toll on me mentally that I really had to step away for a while,” he said during a Facebook Live. “But I’m starting to get that itch again. I’ve got a really great idea for a novel as well as a cool idea for another ‘rant’ book, as I like to call ’em. And probably in the next year or so, I’ll start working on that. But right now, my main focus is Slipknot.”
