Linkin Park fold their Music For Relief charity into the Entertainment Industry Foundation

Music For Relief, the humanitarian aid charity started by Linkin Park following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, is being absorbed by the nonprofit Entertainment Industry Foundation, according to a report from Billboard.

The Linkin Park-led charity organization, which has reportedly raised $11 million to help the survivors of more than 30 natural disasters worldwide, will now become the official crisis relief arm of the EIF. Music For Relief's humanitarian assistance previously supported disaster relief efforts from Hurricane Katrina to earthquakes in Japan, Haiti and Nepal.

“My bandmates and I founded Music For Relief in the spirit of collaboration, recognizing that we could do more in partnership with others,” Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson tells Billboard. “Joining forces with EIF exemplifies the teamwork that will make both entities stronger. The Entertainment Industry Foundation has the capability to activate the entertainment community around a cause, which is what we set out to achieve with Music For Relief.”

The Entertainment Industry Foundation raises awareness and funds for “critical health, educational and social issues by harnessing the collective power of the entertainment community,” according to its website, and the organization is known for its outreach initiatives such as Stand Up To Cancer.

“EIF is honored to help magnify the vision of the generous founders of Music For Relief, the members of Linkin Park,” says EIF head Nicole Sexton. “Music For Relief will allow EIF the capability to harness the power of the entertainment community to help make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by natural disasters around the globe.”

On Tuesday, the members of Linkin Park honored their late singer Chester Bennington—on what would have been his 42nd birthday—by launching a fundraiser for Music For Relief's One More Light Fund; see the tweet below. Bennington's widow, Talinda, paid tribute to Chester by sharing a pledge for the “5 signs of emotional health” in conjunction with the Change Direction organization. Chester Bennington tragically died by suicide last July.
