Star Wars fans have been sent into a frenzy after Uproxx Senior Wntertainment Writer Mike Ryan wrote an article asking fans to answer one simple question on the Return of the Jedi storyline. A question fans soon realized had been unanswered for 35 years.
What was Luke's original plan?

Ryan sent Twitter into an absolute meltdown after he challenged fans to tell him what Luke's plan to rescure Han Solo from Jabba the Hut actually was.
I wrote about the STAR WARS question that has been lingering unanswered for 35 years and I dare ANYONE to come up with an answer. https://t.co/ORYzWiiEGV

He goes on to discuss Luke's numerous attempts to save Han, but brings up a good point that we never actually know what his original plan was—if he even had one to being with.
Fans were thankful that they weren't the only ones being plagued by this unanswered question.
Thank GOD someone has written about this. Been bugging me for 30 years. The rebels coulda just sent a damn company of troops in there and shot the place up, but instead we get . . . whatever the hell this was, even if it was cool. https://t.co/HUiccu0kW8

Lol, I’ve definitely wondered about this for like 20 years. PS nothing else that happens in the original trilogy makes any sense either and no one ever talks about it. https://t.co/SqHbTHUxXW

Some fans even attempted to tackle Ryan's challenge, giving explanations of their own for Luke's “plan”.
It's not Luke's plan, it's Leia's. She brings Chewie in to get herself in, Lando breaks Chewie out, she unfreezes Han, they all escape.
Luke only comes in once everything goes wrong, then the mind trick fails, then he's DOING IT LIVE

Also seems like Luke's plan was to hide his lightsaber in R2 (maybe he thought Jabba's guards would pat him down?) and then wreck shop once he got inside. Except R2 went AWOL and he had to improvise and C3P0 wasn't quick enough to tell him about the trap door 2/

It's a preview of Luke's plan to turn himself in and assume Vader will turn. It also highlights the inner turmoil that will lead to the failure of the New Republic and Luke's arrogance that will lead to Ben Solo's turn…I'm so good at ret-conning I could be a Lucasfilm novelist
