Apple to do something that "hasn't been done before" for slowed down phones
Apple is still answering questions regarding their practice of slowing down older iPhones which, in turn, has affected battery life. Originally, Apple said they'd strictly be replacing iPhone batteries. However, they have another option—and it's something they've never done before.

“We're going to give people the visibility of the health of their battery so it's very, very transparent. This hasn't been done before,” Apple CEO Tim Cook told ABC News. “We will tell somebody 'We're slightly reducing your performance by some amount in order to not have an unexpected restart.' And if you don't want it, you can turn it off.”
Cook explains that the next iOS update will be “more transparent” about the health of your phone battery, giving users the ability to decide whether or not they want to reduce their phone's performance to extend battery life.
However, he doesn't recommend users turn off the function because batteries will worsen over time and can lead to phones abruptly turning off—but, it is an option.
So does that mean we won't be stuck with phones that move at a snail's pace? We'll just have to wait and see how it goes.
