A Day to Remember established themselves as one of the pioneers in modern hardcore music in 2005 with their debut album, And Their Name Was Treason. Over the last 15 years, they’ve released eight records, accumulating well over a billion streams on Spotify. Showcasing post-hardcore, melodic metalcore, and pop punk, ADTR have secured their place in fans’ hearts with impactful lyrics and signature breakdowns.

A lot can happen in 15 years, and A Day to Remember continue to prove that experimentation and evolution is the key to longevity. With Jeremy McKinnon’s distinct vocals and chugging guitars that fans have grown to love, ADTR have continued to evolve, turning themselves into a staple of modern rock music.

8. And Their Name Was Treason (2005)

This record helped establish ADTR as pioneers of the metalcore and pop-punk scene with tracks like “Your Way With Your Words Is Through Silence,” “A Second Glance,” and “You Had Me At Hello” expanding what modern hardcore music can sound like. But the actual production, engineering and mixing are what makes And Their Name Was Treason their worst record. McKinnon’s iconic vocals sound as if they have a constant filter over them, disrupting the clear, bright sound they’ve developed over the years. The content of the record isn’t poor and is quite enjoyable, but the inadequate technicalities of the production overshadow what is otherwise good songwriting.

7. You’re Welcome (2021)

In comparison, You’re Welcome has sharper production, thanks to Jeremy McKinnon stepping in as lead producer. Yet, the album still feels a bit generic. It’s a consistent record from ADTR, with standout tracks like “Brick Wall,” “Viva La Mexico,” and “Permanent,” but there’s nothing truly special about the cohesiveness of the project. It feels like a filler album, with songs that may have been written for Bad Vibrations but didn’t make the cut. It strays more on the pop side of pop-punk, seemingly imitating Bring Me The Horizon’s signature use of electronics throughout the songs.

6. For Those Who Have a Heart (2007)

There’s nothing necessarily bad about For Those Who Have a Heart, but ADTR has stronger records. “The Plot to Bomb the Panhandle” has a killer riff in the intro, before opening into McKinnon’s classic pop-punk vocals that lead into a good, chugging pre-chorus. “Monument” taps into the instrumental side of alternative, and “The Price We Pay” showcases the slower, acoustic side of the band. It’s a decent album and a precursor to their impending evolution.

5. Old Record (2008)

Old Record is the re-recorded and mixed version of And Their Name Was Treason, and it thrives. The production, engineering, and mixing have been completely transformed, allowing the authentic style of old pop-punk and metalcore to shine. “Casablanca Sucked Anyway” adapts a bit of a Linkin Park style with the intro’s piano chords, “A 2nd Glance” sounds even better than it did on the And Their Name Was Treason record, and “You Had Me @ Hello” shines the acoustic guitars in a new, bright light. Old Record allows for ADTR’s songwriting and instrumentals to be showcased in the way they always should have been.

4. Bad Vibrations (2016)

The blend of melodic metalcore and post-hardcore is done expertly on this record. Bad Vibrations balances chugging, chunky verses and melodic, sing-songy choruses with great ease. “Naivety,” “Reassemble,” and “Same About You” show their exploration of different kinds of post-hardcore, metalcore, and alternative techniques, without straying too far from their roots. McKinnon’s signature high notes keep the listener engaged with the expected ADTR sound.

3. Homesick (2009)

Homesick is arguably one of ADTR’s most iconic albums. “Downfall of Us All,” the album’s opening track, is known by nearly anyone who’s listened to any introductory playlist into the post-hardcore/metalcore scene. The album features even more recognizable songs, “Have Faith In Me” and “If It Means A Lot To You” which have left an imprint on modern metalcore to this day. A Day to Remember had hit their stride on this record, mixing their melodic metalcore and post-hardcore to near perfection, creating songs that have a place in so many fans’ musical journeys.

2. What Separates Me From You (2010)

In a tough battle for first, What Separates Me From You, is sonically and lyrically near perfect, but isn’t number one. ADTR taps into the pop-punk aspect even further on this album. “All I Want,” a song written about being in a band and remaining positive even when things are low, has inspired fans for years and is one of their most streamed songs to date. “All Signs Point to Lauderdale” is a classic due to the stereotypical story of being from a small town with no prospects set to a double kick drum and a melodic chorus. Underrated tracks like “It’s Complicated” and “Better Off This Way” keep the upbeat momentum throughout the entire album.

1. Common Courtesy (2013)

Common Courtesy stands as ADTR’s best record for a multitude of reasons. The cohesion and consistency of this album are excellent. Each song sounds different, but they all sound like they should be on the same record. Just clenching our number one pick for ADTR, this record was also produced by McKinnon. It was their first independent record due to issues with their record label, which could have gone in a completely different direction. Instead, ADTR hones in on their signature melodic metalcore and alternative influences, while still maintaining a balance with softer songs and acoustic guitars. Tracks like, “Right Back At It Again,” “Best of Me,” and “End of Me” are some of their best, exploring the idea of different tempos and moods, while maintaining the identity of A Day to Remember.
