A Day To Remember, August Burns Red, Tonight Alive, more stoked for Self Help Fest

A Day To Remember’s Self Help Fest is March 19, and it’s expected to be the biggest one yet. Festival founders ADTR will headline the festival along with newly reunited Underoath.

Frontman Jeremy McKinnon told ABC New Radio that the idea for Self Help fest came from a conversation with his girlfriend. “She told me that the most people who come [to our shows] respond like it’s more than just a concert to them,” he said in a statement. “It’s like the music is genuinely helping them. Thus, we titled our festival Self Help, because at the end of the day that’s what music’s all about.”

The lineup also includes the Wonder Years, the Story So Far, August Burns Red, Issues, Crown The Empire, Further Seems Forever, Tonight Alive, Moose Blood, One OK Rock, Cruel Hand and more. Lucky for you, tickets are still available.

The bands are just as stoked as you are to rock the house in San Bernardino, CA. Here’s what they had to say on the matter.

Jeremy McKinnon, A Day To Remember

What are you most excited for?

I’m most excited to play. It’s been awhile since we’ve been active, and this fest is gonna be an awesome way to get back into the swing of things.

What’s your favorite thing about the fest?
The reaction from fans and bands alike. The crowd has been over the top into all the bands every year so far. Really pushing the performances to another level. Then on the bands’ side, it’s awesome just to see people having a good time and feeling like they’re being taken care of. That doesn’t happen in our genre at the moment.

What band’s set are you pumped to see?

I’m excited about Further Seems Forever and Underoath. Those are both bands we all grew up listening to that inspired who we are today. It’s gonna be a great time.

Brent Rambler, August Burns Red

What are you most excited for?

I am most excited to see Further Seems Forever and Underoath battle over who is the better reuniting Tooth & Nail band.

What’s your favorite thing about the fest?

I’m not quite sure what my favorite thing about the fest is. It hasn’t happened yet, and although I wish I had the superpower to see into the future, I currently do not.

What band’s set are you pumped to see?

I’m really excited to see the Wonder Years. I highly enjoy their new record, so I hope to see some jams off of that one!

Jenna McDougall, Tonight Alive

What are you most excited for?

We've never played an American festival outside of Warped, so I'm pumped to experience a new culture in that way.

What's your favorite thing about the fest?

I love that ADTR have built the festival from the ground up. With their knowledge and experience, it probably runs really well and with the bands’ and fans’ best interests at heart. I also love that its foundation is a positive message.

What band's set are you pumped to see?

We can't wait to see Underoath. Letlive. And One OK Rock also put on a great show every time.

Kelen Capener, The Story So Far

What are you most excited for?

Catering. Last year it was self-serve and damn tasty.

What's your favorite thing about the fest?

In order to avoid redundancy, I'll assume that I'm not most excited for my favorite thing (that being catering) and mention that we'll be in good company; as the tour is put on by and features friends and bands we've previously toured with.

What band's set are you pumped to see?

I'd answer this question, but I'd be lying if I said I won't be occupied at catering. I'll have other opportunities to see these bands, but not to eat catering this good. Sorry.

A.J. Rebollo, Issues

What are you most excited for?

Although a bit nervous about it, I'm most excited to finally play some new songs for everyone. I'm very interested to see how they'll go over live. It's always a challenge performing new songs, but we'll do our best to bring the energy and I've no doubt it will be reciprocated by Self Help's crowd!

What's your favorite thing about the fest?

Favorite thing about the fest is by far the energy throughout the day. The last time we played Self Help, I got the chance to check out a bunch of other bands on each stage and it seemed like the crowd was equally stoked and energetic for every band that played. It's a super solid lineup this year, so I'm sure it'll be just as awesome!

What band's set are you pumped to see?

Of course I'm most excited to see Underoath! That band was and is a huge influence to not only me, but this scene entirely. I can't wait to be flooded with nostalgia during their set.

Andrew Budwey, Cruel Hand

What are you most excited for?

I'm most psyched to get out and play to a ton of kids who might be new to our band. We had a great time at Self Help in Philly, and we got to play to both new and old fans. That's the best of both worlds. It's always good to go out and make new friends!

What's your favorite thing about the fest?

Seeing bands I'd never seen before, definitely. I don't get to see a lot of bands of that level do their thing which is always a cool learning experience. The catering was so good last time too!

What band's set are you pumped to see?

The Story So Far and Yelawolf.

Andy Leo, Crown The Empire

What are you most excited for?

I'm most excited to enjoy a semi work day hanging out and enjoying some kick ass bands.

What’s your favorite thing about the fest?

The festival atmosphere is always fun. Good food, good hangs, and most fans who come out are ready to FSU.

What band’s set are you pumped to see?

I'm a long time Underoath fan so the opportunity to watch them is going to be surreal! I'm also excited to catch Yelawolf because his music is so different than every other performer there.
