A 'Labyrinth' spinoff is in the works

Don't Breathe and Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez has been hired by TriStar to bring a spinoff of 1986's Labyrinth to the big screen, Deadline reports.

The classic adventure/fantasy film was directed by Jim Henson and executive produced by George Lucas. It starred David Bowie as Jareth, the Goblin King.

Alvarez will write the story alongside Jay Basu, who is also writing the script.

Sources to Deadline emphasize that the movie will not be a remake. It will instead be a new story within the universe that Labyrinth so masterfully created.
