Someone is playing “Africa” by Toto in African desert for eternity

Everyone loves “Africa” by Toto, but one artist really took his fandom of the song to another level.

Namibian-German artist Max Siedentopf set up speakers and a solar-powered MP3 player in the Namib Desert that will play “Africa” forever. Yes, this is real.

The exact location hasn’t been disclosed by the artist. The Namib desert is the oldest desert in the world and spans 1,200 miles, so it might take a while for someone to find this work of art. He did say all the equipment in the installation is durable enough to handle the desert environment.

“Even though ‘Africa’ by Toto was released 1982 it is still very much present in today’s pop culture and frequently used for memes and even entire Reddit pages are dedicated to the song,” Siedentopf told CNN. “I was very intrigued by this and wanted to pay the song the ultimate homage and physically exhibit ‘Africa’ in Africa … Hopefully the song will play just as long.”

The art installation includes an MP3 player on a white pedestal surrounded by four speakers also on pedestals. It looks super ominous and strange.

Check out the ridiculousness of it all below.

Whether you love this or hate it, you have to admit this art installation is nothing short of creative.

The only thing that would make this better is if the installation played the famous Weezer cover of the track. In case you forgot what that sounded like, you can listen to it again below.
