Watch AJR honor Adam Schlesinger with a new Fountains Of Wayne cover
Back in April, Fountains Of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger tragically passed away due to COVID-19 complications. Since then, tributes to Schlesinger have continued pouring out. Now, AJR are paying tribute to the late musician, songwriter and creator in a new Fountains Of Wayne cover.
Earlier this week, a tribute album was released in Schlesinger's honor. Called Saving For A Custom Van, the 31-track album includes covers of songs Schlesinger wrote throughout his life. Charly Bliss, Motion City Soundtrack, Nada Surf and HUNNY are just a few of the artists featured on the album. All of the proceeds from Saving For A Custom Van's Bandcamp sales are being donated to COVID-19 relief.
Most people remember Schlesinger during his time in Fountains Of Wayne. However, Schlesinger was a multi-talented creator. He was known for working on various music, movie and television projects during his life.
In 1996, his song “That Thing You Do!” which is featured in Tom Hanks‘ directorial debut of the same name earned Schlesinger an Oscars nomination for original song. As well, he is credited for writing song material for 2007’s Music & Lyrics starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore.
Now, AJR are honoring his memory with their cover of "Hackensack." In the video, vocalist Jack Met reveals that this particular song is one of their favorite songs ever written. As well, AJR further shared on social media just how important Fountains Of Wayne's music is to them and how much Schlesinger has greatly influenced them.
"Fountains of Wayne taught us how you could take the most mundane stories and turn them into something emotional," AJR share. "We lost Adam Schlesinger to Covid-19 recently, and wanted to celebrate how much influence he had on us."

"Hackensack" has been featured on various movie soundtracks over the years including 2005's Just Friends. The romantic comedy stars Ryan Reynolds, Amy Smart and Anna Faris. Katy Perry also covered the song during her 2009 MTV Unplugged performance. During the performance, she said that "Hackensack" is one of her favorite pop songs.
