Since coronavirus has canceled most events in 2020, livestreaming has become a vital tool for artists. Many musicians are using various platforms to stream performances as a way to promote their music, raise money and connect with fans during this time of isolation.

Recently, Post Malone used the power of livestreaming to raise over $4 million for COVID-19 relief. Alongside blink-182‘s Travis Barker, the rapper played a full set of Nirvana covers for the virtual performance.

As well, Mike Shinoda‘s Dropped Frames, Vol. 1 was made entirely on Twitch. With the help of viewers around the world, the album features 12 tracks that were all created with input from fans.

A press release announcing the new partnership states that the feature will enable fans “to engage with artists in brand-new ways and move seamlessly between live streams and recorded music.”

“For the first time,” the release says. “Artists across the globe will be able to connect live with Amazon Music’s more than 55 million customers through Twitch, providing music fans with the best live in-app experience possible, and further engagement with an artist’s recorded catalogue.”

Over 1,000 artists’ Amazon Music accounts are already connected to Twitch. According to Amazon Music Director Ryan Redington, “this new feature couldn’t arrive at a more crucial time in the industry.”

The Twitch partnership gives Amazon Music users new ways to discover and engage with artists. The app will include push notifications from artists they follow when they go live on Twitch and through the new “Live” browse page on Amazon Music.
