Due to coronavirus, AMC Theatres and other cinemas across the country were forced to close all locations. Since then, the film industry has been greatly impacted by the pandemic. Numerous films have faced multiple release delays as theaters remain closed.

Earlier this year, AMC anticipated that its locations would reopen in the U.S. by July. However, as coronavirus cases in the country spiked, the company kept all locations closed.

Now, AMC is looking forward to reopening its doors at more than 100 locations in the United States. To celebrate the “Movies in 2020 at 1920 Price” reopening, AMC is offering 15-cent tickets, the same price offered in 1920.

For the opening day on Aug. 20, AMC is showing catalog films including Ghostbusters, Marvel‘s Black Panther, Back To The Future and Grease. 15-cent tickets will only be available on Aug. 20. Following the opening day, these older films will be available to see for $5.

Along with the reopening announcement, AMC Theatres has confirmed the arrival of some highly-anticipated films. Disney‘s delayed New Mutants will debut in theaters on Aug. 28. Christopher Nolan‘s Tenet arrives on Sept. 3. Warner Bros. plans to release Tenet a weekly earlier internationally in various countries including Canada.

As well, Disney’s Fox Searchlight‘s Personal History of David Copperfield is slated for a small release sometime in late August.

On Thursday, AMC shared that it expects about two-thirds of its locations to be open in time for the arrival of Tenet on Sept. 3. At this time, several states such as California, Washington and New York have yet to reopen its theaters amid the pandemic.

AMC’s competitor Regal Cinemas also plans to reopen some of its locations starting Aug. 21.

Various highly-anticipated movies have had their theatrical releases delayed. Most recently, A Quiet Place: Part 2, Jordan Peele‘s Candyman remake, Jackass, Forever Purge and Halloween Kills have all been delayed due to the pandemic.

Disney recently decided to premiere the live-action remake of Mulan exclusively on Disney+. After facing numerous delays, Mulan is now premiering exclusively on Disney+ in the United States and other countries where theaters remain closed. However, subscribers will have to pay an extra $29.99 to watch the film starting Sept 4.
