Andrew W.K. celebrates National Taco Day with new taco-shaped guitar

While the rest of us were going about our daily lives not even realizing it was National Taco Day today, Andrew W.K. was partying in the future with a taco guitar.

The rocker has been hard at work on hand-painting his very own custom guitar, created by ESP Guitars and hand-painted by Andrew W.K. himself. The result of a four-year project, it’s the spitting image of a mouth-watering taco bursting with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and beef. Hopefully there’s a little chorizo hiding in there somewhere, too.

It’s all been a part of his quest to discover the most “party” thing in the world, and what embodies the essence of party more fully than a taco? Probably nothing.

“I started pondering, what’s another food that’s as party as pizza? When it comes to edible celebration, tacos are partier than almost anything else,” W.K. said. “Pizza and tacos are among the partiest foods on the planet, and I realized that since I had paid musical tribute to pizza, I now had to pay musical tribute to tacos. I was destined to make a taco shaped guitar – it was inevitable.”

But the taco isn’t the only eye-catching detail on the guitar. On the other side, Andrew has painted an eerily realistic blue eye, staring out into the ether. Honestly, the eye might be the real draw here, but eyes aren’t very “party,” after all.

Andrew is currently finishing up a new album, which is projected for release on March 2 in 2018. He’s also currently traveling around the world on his The Party Never Dies tour, which made its last stop in Texas. If you want to get in on the party, you can find the rest of the upcoming dates here
