Chiodos frontman Craig Owens has taken on Bikini Kill's Riot Grrrl classic “Rebel Girl” in support of organizations Equal Rights Advocates and Girls Rock Camp Alliance, which strive for female equality and empowerment. 100 percent of the profits from the purchase of the cover from Owens' bandcamp page will go to the aforementioned organizations.
Of his passion for the cause, Owens says:
“I have always had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and often find myself in books or documentaries on the subject of things far from me physically but close to me mentally and emotionally. During my daily routine of trying to educate myself on things that I was curious about, I heard about a documentary called “Girl Rising” . Women and girls still earn less for every dollar that men and have barriers to education. I recorded “Rebel Girl” with Dave Trumfio in Los Angeles in early September. It was written and originally released by Bikini Kill. 100% of net profits from sales will go directly to Equal Rights Advocates and Girls Rock Camp. Both these organization continue to help pave the way towards equal rights for girls and women everywhere.”
