Artist-On-Artist interview: Matty Mullins and Bradley Walden talk "selling out"

In part two of our artist-on-artist interview with Memphis May Fire’s Matty Mullins and Emarosa’s Bradley Walden, the guys talk about career longevity and how artists can hope to achieve it.

“I have no backup plan,” Walden says. “I don’t recommend that for anyone else, but for me, this is what I’m good at, and this is what I’m going to do. If I have a backup plan, it makes me feel like I don’t believe in myself enough to commit 100 percent to what I’m doing now.”

They also talk about hitting the ceiling of the scene and how to respond to the criticism that can come to artists who try to break out of it.

“If I write songs [that I’m proud of], there’s absolutely nothing you could say that would make me less stoked on that,” Mullins says.

“Maybe the next Memphis record will be totally buttrock,” Mullins jokes. “Who knows? It’s not up to you guys; it’s up to us.”
