Take a virtual guitar composition lesson with Duane Denison of Tomahawk and the Jesus Lizard

Our friends at LessonFace have paired with AP to bring you a three-part video music lesson series in rock composition, taught by Duane Denison of the Jesus Lizard and Tomahawk.

In our first video, Denison taught you the basics of composing a rock song. In part two, he dove deeper into the elements of composition and actually creating a song.

In this final segment, Denison explains the importance of not getting bogged down by extraneous details like effects or what other instruments are going to be doing when working on the initial guitar composition. He suggests focusing on which notes, tones, textures and pitches are right for the sound you’re trying to convey and how they should transition into one another.

LessonFace is an online music education portal, where you can take live, online music lessons in everything from guitar to beatboxing and even Ableton and Pro Tools with renowned music educators, Grammy-nominees, rock stars, rappers and more (browse LessonFace’s educators).

If you like this video series, you can book a lesson with Denison in electric or acoustic guitar.
