Architects are unstoppable on their industrial new track "tear gas"

Architects are back with a new single, “tear gas,” and it premiered alongside a radioactive music video. The band also announced their new album, the classic symptoms of a broken spirit, is out Oct. 21 via Epitaph Records.

At the beginning of “tear gas,” a faint, reverberant sonar ping portends a cavernous drop hiding behind the roaring instrumentation. Those who manage to listen past the track’s rugged outer layer are met with an ever-expanding sound, complete with stalagmites of unyielding percussion and vocals that come to resemble the dank humidity of unseen depths.

In the video, Architects adopt the role of mysterious experimenters. When their session of watching cute pug videos is interrupted by the warning of an imminent meltdown, the band rush to escape the facility.

“This one feels more live, more exciting and more fun — it has that energy. We wanted it to be a lot more industrial and electronic,” frontman Sam Carter said in a press release.

The band’s intentions are unmistakable, from the track’s fascination with constantly echoing elements and the accompanying video’s theme. Architects have never been ones to make shallow songs, and on “tear gas,” each of their tried-and-true tricks for making a track feel expansive has been given a chrome finish.

This fall, Architects will embark on their tour across the U.S. and U.K. Tickets are available for purchase here.
