Mark Hoppus gets legal, sues company

Mark Hoppus may be in (+44), but he’s -$600K. The bassist recently filed suit against a father-and-son-run company he invested $600,000 in, saying the business never had contracts to install automated checkout machines at McDonald’s restaurants as they’d promised.

Hoppus had initially invested the money in the company, Missicom LLC, in October 2003. Missicom never actually had the contracts to install the machines, and instead raised nearly $3.4 million, pocketing $1.5 million in the process.

Other notable investors in the venture included Tom Delonge and Travis Barker, Hoppus’ bandmates past and present (respectively), as well as pro golfer Phil Mickelson.

The trial is scheduled for September 8.
