Against Me! in bus accident; all members okay
Socio-political punk act Against Me! were involved in a bus accident early this morning on their way from Denver, Colorado, to Salt Lake City, Utah, on their current headlining tour with Ted Leo/Pharmacists and Future Of The Left. According to the band’s publicist, the accident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. Mountain time today while the band were driving through Wyoming. As such, the show in Salt Lake City tonight has been canceled. The band’s publicist also has informed AP that "the band’s gear was thrown from the trailer all over the highway." According to a post made by drummer Warren Oakes’ mother on the band’s public message board:
"At about 6am, Wyoming time, while everyone was safely tucked in their bunks, the bus hit a patch of ice just outside Rawlins, Wyoming and slid – ending up facing the reverse direction in the median.
The trailer, containing all the gear and supplies wobbled and bounced out of control – landing sideways in a snowy ditch. The trailer doors had ripped open, so all around the site of their accident the ground was covered with equipment cases, CDs, boxes of T-shirts, etc.
There were other cars in the area affected by the icy conditions, so Jordan was able to hitch a ride with a nearby tow-truck to make arrangements for hotel rooms and a U-Haul for gathering up all their belongings."
This is not the first time a band have gotten into an accident in the Northwest part of the United States; Set Your Goals, Every Time I Die, We Are The Fury and Boys Like Girls have all experienced accidents in the same part of the country; Bayside were involved in their own van accident three years ago in the exact same area that took the life of their drummer, John "Beatz" Holohan.
As winter approaches and weather worsens, we encourage bands to take proper precautions when touring in inclement weather (avoid late-night driving; make sure everyone is buckled up; apply snow chains when driving through mountains).
