Are Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge teasing something for Box Car Racer?
Nearly two decades ago, Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge took a brief break from blink-182 to form Box Car Racer.
It’s been 18 years since they dropped their first, and only, album. However, it looks like Barker and DeLonge may have some big plans up their sleeves for Box Car Racer’s 20th anniversary next year.

It’s hard to believe Box Car Racer dropped their self-titled debut album almost twenty years ago. The 13-track album, which includes the hits “There Is” and “I Feel So,” truly left fans wanting more from the band after all these years.
Back in April, however, Tom DeLonge hinted that Box Car Racer’s time may not actually be over.
“I love the Box Car stuff,” he told Rock Sound. “Me and Travis, still to this day, talk about doing Box Car all the time. Maybe there’s something that already exists that would be really cool for that band, but I’m not getting into that here.”
Now, it appears Travis Barker and DeLonge may be scheming something up for Box Car Racer in 2021. On Dec. 28, Barker tweeted that the band’s anniversary was coming up.
“Next year is the 20th anniversary of the Box Car Racer album.”

Barker’s tweet quickly warranted a reply from DeLonge who had a humorous response to the reminder.

Now, it looks like Barker may be hinting at what Box Car Racer’s anniversary plans actually are. The blink-182 drummer has been subtly liking various tweets pertaining to the Box Car Racer anniversary. From requests for a reunion show, a full-length tour and a new album, Barker is clearly acknowledging fans’ predictions about what could be in store.

Barker even liked a tweet all about that unreleased Box Car Racer song. Back in July, Barker revealed that the band actually have an unheard song that they almost released. However, Barker felt that putting out the track would just get fans’ hopes up for more Box Car Racer music in the future.

“Nothing yet,” Barker said on a potential reunion. “But I talk to Tom all the time. There’s actually an unreleased Box Car [Racer] song that we were almost going to release, but it would just be wrong to troll people and put that out in the world. But, it’s incredible and probably no one will ever hear it.”
Now, Barker is seemingly acknowledging that Box Car Racer fans may finally get to hear that unreleased song when he liked the following tweet.

For now, it looks like we will just have to patiently wait and see how Box Car Racer decide to celebrate their 20th anniversary. In the meantime, Barker has been hard at work on blink-182’s upcoming release.

Their new EP was originally set to arrive this summer after the debut of “Quarantine.” However, those plans quickly changed. Then, in November, Mark Hoppus confirmed that the new EP is set to arrive in late 2020 or early 2021.
Additionally, blink-182 have been working so hard on the release that they may have enough material to make it into a full-length album. Matt Skiba also hinted that blink-182’s new batch of songs remind him of the Enema Of The State and Take Off Your Pants and Jacket eras.
