Ariana Grande recently dropped “thank u, next,” a track paying homage to all of her exes. While some might think her latest banger is a diss track, Grande instead shows that she is mature beyond her years by thanking her past partners for everything they have taught her.

“thank u, next” dropped just before this week’s episode of SNL aired last night. According to TMZ, Grande released the track ahead of anything her most recent ex, Pete Davidson, might have to say on the latest episode. Since then, the world has been kneeling at Grande’s feet, and for good reason.

The song exemplifies bittersweet moments of clarity and gratefulness. “thank u, next” references Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, Davidson and the late Mac Miller.

“Thought I’d end up with Sean/ But he wasn’t a match/ Wrote some songs about Ricky/ Now I listen and laugh/ Even almost got married/ And for Pete I’m so thankful/ Wish I could say thank you to Malcolm/ Cause he was an angel.”

Grande then clarified that the song wasn’t meant to throw any shade.

“no drags.... no shade..... jus love, gratitude, acceptance, honesty, forgiveness ... and growth,” Grande says in a tweet.

Additionally, Grande took to Twitter to tease her upcoming album of the same name. While thank u, next does not have a confirmed release date yet, we can expect to see some updates soon.

Despite all assumptions, Pete Davidson went on SNL last night and only gave his utmost respect to the pop star. Additionally, Davidson pushed all viewers to go vote later this week.

“And the last thing I will say, I know some of you are curious about the breakup, but the truth is, it’s nobody’s business,” Davidson says. “And sometimes things just don't work out, and that’s okay. She’s (Grande) a wonderful, strong person and I genuinely wish her all of the happiness in the world. Now please, go vote on Tuesday.”

“I’m still a great song though,” Davidson concludes, referencing Grande’s song “Pete Davidson,” from her last LP Sweetener.
