In the recent years Lavigne has been focusing on her battle with Lyme disease, and has stepped out of the spotlight to ensure her own health is up to par.  This will be the first album for the pop-punk icon since her self-titled record in 2013.

“I wanted to first thank my fans for your patience & support during my time away throughout my battle with Lyme Disease over the past 2 years,” she said in her post. “It hasn't just been a hard battle but it's also been enlightening and will reflect in my new music, artistry, life, and personally. I will always continue to make it a priority to fight and raise awareness about Lyme Disease with the Avril Lavigne foundation.”

Lavigne was recently in the news when she defended her husband and fellow Canadian, Chad Kroeger, who was the butt of a joke regarding Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's smart home, which he'd instructed not to play Kroeger's band, Nickelback.

However, 2017 is set to resume Lavigne's career, and fans around the world will be heavily anticipating her new music. And Avril is just as excited.

“I'm really happy to announce that I am now working on new music and I will be releasing a new album in 2017. I can't wait to open up and share my heart with you! I'm excited for you guys to hear the new songs. It's going to be an amazing 2017!”
