Avril Lavigne is the most dangerous person to search online

According to a recent study, Avril Lavigne is the most dangerous celebrity to search online. And it's not because of her edgy music.

For the last 11 years, the internet security company McAfee has been doing a study to determine the most dangerous celebrities of the year in terms of internet safety, and this year, Lavigne came in at number one. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with how dangerous Avril's fashion sense was in the early 2000's, but rather how frequently searches for her name yield dangerous results like malicious websites and malware.

Apparently, you have about a 14.5% chance of landing on a dangerous website when searching Lavigne's name, and if you really want to destroy your computer and/or credit score, you can add the words “free mp3” to your search to bump those chances up to 22%.

But why is Avril Lavigne of all people, who has not released an album since 2013, the most dangerous person to search you may ask? We're not sure, but maybe it has to do with the ongoing internet conspiracy that Avril died and was replaced by an imposter years ago. Or maybe because she's supposed to be releasing a new album sometime this year. Or maybe it's just because no one can deny the guilty pleasure of listening to “Sk8er Boi” on repeat and dancing around in your room at night, but no one really wants to pay for it.

While all this is fascinating, it's really no surprise to anyone that trying to illegally download music for free very often puts your computer and personal information at risk—especially those of us who have been alive long enough to remember Limewire. The moral of the story here is: Pay for your music, kids. Whether you purchase physical copies from the artist, get digital downloads from legit music providers like iTunes, or stream your music from Spotify or a similar platform, music is a product that your favorite artists work really hard to produce, and they deserve a little compensation.
