Did Balenciaga just reinvent the Canadian tuxedo?
The show began with an assemblage of models wearing shining, inky masks slowly parading through the tight space. Their clothing, in a similarly haunting fashion, toyed with the concepts of constrainedly deep blacks, bending light, contrasting colors and lending form to the formless.
One exceedingly eye-grabbing model wore an elevated Canadian tuxedo. Its collar extended above the masked wearer's head, and the pants become a thin skirt that trailed on the ground behind them.
Some of the collection's most striking pieces were reserved for the stars who graced the runway. Kardashian modeled a form-fitting ebony dress whose hem flirted with the idea of becoming a train. Conversely, Campbell was dressed in a mass of conflicting geometries — a great triangular bodice that expanded into an even larger orb of a skirt.
