Bandcamp is donating sales to NAACP Legal Defense Fund for 24 hours
Bandcamp is revealing they are donating all of their sales for Juneteenth to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
Juneteenth lands on June 19 representing the emancipation date for the last enslaved African Americans in the Confederacy in 1865.
Today, Bandcamp CEO Ethan Diamond says that they intend to do this every year in honor of the date. Now, they're showing solidarity with protesters and address the numerous recent killings of black people. Further, they're allocating $30,000 more per year to organizations fighting for racial justice and creating opportunities for people of color.
You can read their statement below and see the full address here.
"The recent killings of George Floyd, Tony McDade, Sean Reed, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and the ongoing state-sanctioned violence against black people in the US and around the world are horrific tragedies. We stand with those rightfully demanding justice, equality, and change, and people of color everywhere who live with racism every single day, including many of our fellow employees and artists and fans in the Bandcamp community.JuneteenthNAACP Legal Defense Fund
Recently, Bandcamp has been lending a hand to musicians amid the coronavirus pandemic. They're waiving revenue fees for artists each month to bring some extra income to musicians. The next date they're hosting this is June 5. The last campaign brought in $7.1 million in just 24 hours.
The Minnesota Freedom Fund has already raised around $20 million for helping cover legal costs for low-income individuals arrested for low-level charges. If you are willing and able to donate, you may do so here.
If you would like to donate to the George Floyd Memorial Fund which is covering all funeral and burial costs, court costs, grief counseling, travel and lodging costs of Floyd’s family and for the care and education of George Floyd’s children, you may do so here.
