In the most recent issue of Alternative Press, Andrew Kelham spoke with Beartooth headmaster Caleb Shomo on a multitude of things, including his past, present and the band's new album.

On his time in Attack Attack!, he touched on his departure and the mentality he had at the time. “Well, obviously I quit Attack Attack! because I felt like it was a very unhealthy place for me. It was causing a lot of stress that was manifesting itself in all manner of mental health issues—I was incredibly depressed and anxious.”

What did that way of seeing yourself lead to?

Well, obviously I quit Attack Attack! because I felt like it was a very unhealthy place for me. It was causing a lot of stress that was manifesting itself in all manner of mental health issues—I was incredibly depressed and anxious. Obviously from there, I started writing the kind of songs I'm more known for now, songs that are a lot more honest, songs that work through with [wording] the things I have gone through. Honestly, writing that way has led me to a better place. I can honestly say that anyone that knew me then and knows me now sees a big change. I am comfortable with myself and genuinely happy on a daily basis. It's awesome.
