Mike D caught up with Apple Music's Matt Wilkinson to say that the memoir is “happening” this fall.

“Like many things we embark on, there were many false starts and, honestly, directions we went in that we realized were not the directions we should be going in, but it's gonna be coming out in the fall of this year,” Mike D said.

The two started the memoir back in 2013, and as Wilkinson explains, it was originally expected to be released in 2015.

But Mike D says that they wanted to tell the entire cultural story of where they came from, meaning it's taken longer to put together.

“To tell our story, we have to give the cultural history of where we came from,” he explained. “So New York City in the '80s, you had all this incredible, exciting music, art, film. All of that sort of has to converge to be able to explain. We just had the good fortune of being around all of it, so I think that's No. 1.”

Mike D also says that it's not like a traditional music biography.

“A lot of times when I read a band book or watch a music documentary, I get a little bored. But I don't think they do the subject matter justice because it's kind of surreal what happens in a band's life, so you have to use all dimensions to tell the story more accurately,” he says.
