10 band reunions we never thought we’d see happen

Being in a band is like being in a relationship, and many times, that means messy breakups and unsatisfying endings. But on some occasions (usually after a few years), some acts are able to put aside their differences and get back together, either for an epic one-off show or a full-blown reunion.

We’ve decided to take a trip down memory lane and recognize 10 bands who have returned in some way or another. You can check those out below.

The Dangerous Summer

When the Dangerous Summer dropped their self-titled album in 2018, it was their first release in five years. They followed it up the next year with Mother Nature. More recently, they put out a new single, “Fuck Them All,” a not-so-subtle callout to the individuals in the music industry who attempt to bring artists down. The song was a fitting way for the band to begin releasing music independently

From First To Last

From First To Last’s reunion in March 2019 was what emo dreams were made of. The band, including frontman Sonny Moore, aka Skrillex, played their first show in two years at Emo Nite LA. This was the same event where Moore rejoined the band in 2017 for the first time in a decade after leaving in 2007.

My Chemical Romance

Do we need to say more about this one? MCR broke the internet on Halloween last year when they announced their first show since 2012. The return was everything we could’ve dreamed of, and the band had plans to continue their comeback tour this summer. However, that has been postponed to 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Creeper

Creeper recently came back from the dead after they disbanded for a year to rebuild the band from the ground up. They ushered fans into the new era with lead single “Born Cold.” The release of their new album, Sex, Death & The Infinite Void, has been nothing short of spectacular, taking influence from David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane era, Roy Orbison and Britpop.

Bikini Kill

These riot grrrl icons reunited last spring to perform their first gig in over 20 years. Bikini Kill ended up adding more reunion dates after there was an issue with ticket scalpers buying many of the tickets and reselling them at a much higher price. Regardless, the initial show went off without a hitch, and we wish we could’ve been there.

Avail

After more than a decade apart, the members of legendary punk band Avail reunited last year for two hometown shows in Richmond, Virginia. Who knows if the band have any further plans besides the dual shows, but if not, it was a satisfying ending nonetheless.

Underoath

After disbanding in 2013, Underoath made their epic return in 2016 with a full-blown tour and headlining Self Help Festival alongside A Day To Remember. As if that wasn’t enough, they dropped Erase Me in 2018, which was their first album in eight years and first in 10 years with founding drummer Aaron Gillespie. Needless to say, we were stoked.

American Football

In 2016, American Football shocked emo fans everywhere by announcing their first album in 17 years. They went on to release more music, even putting out “Uncomfortably Numb” featuring Paramore’s Hayley Williams for LP3, but at the time, it felt like a resurrection.

Fall Out Boy

While Fall Out Boy didn’t officially break up in 2009, they went on an indefinite hiatus that started to make fans wonder if they’d ever get back together. The band finally confirmed reunion rumors with the release of “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light ‘Em Up).” Once they dropped Save Rock And Roll in 2013, the rest was history.

Into It. Over It.

Just this past July, Into It. Over It. returned with a new single called “Living Up To Let You Down,” which comes from Evan Weiss’ forthcoming record, Figure. The album will be his first full-length release in four years, and we can’t wait to hear how his sound has evolved.
